Synopsis[]
They are almost home. And about time, their child can be born any day now. While sailing the last bit, they meet Wor the Tremendous, the new leader of the Vikings in the North. And an ambitious leader, he plans to become king of all the Vikings. He summons the boat Thorgal is traveling on, and Wor challenges Thorgal until he strikes him down. Which gives Wor the reasons he needed for his plan…
Plot[]
In an unknown village, Wor, the self proclaimed Viking chief and his second in command Votiak, torture and kill a villager to find where the villagers hid their food. A hunchback tries to kill Wor but is spared by Votiak because he believes Gods protects the simple minded so Wor decides to cut the hunchback’s hand instead.
Thorgal, Aaricia, Jolan and muff are sailing back towards their ancestral village with the help of Einar. Near the village, they meet an expedition party led by Wor. Thorgal refuses to join the attack and after hitting Wor, is left on the shore with his family to walk homme. Given Aaricia late pregnancy, Thorgal builds a makeshift hut for her and their son so he can reach the village quickly and bring a chariot back.
While Thorgal is gone, Votiak and two men meet Aaricia. One of them is lured and killed by the hunchback who hides near them. Votiak decide to kill Aaricia quickly but they escape when Muff attacks the men. As they try to catch up, Jolan sneaks back to steal a horse while the hunchback attack the remaining men.
Meanwhile, Thorgal reaches the village and notices Wor’s party returned. Finding that suspicious, he stays hidden and finds Einar hung. He sneaks up on Solveig who brings her to Hierulf who explain that Wor is lying about having the blessings of the Althing to become the top Viking chief. He also learns that Votiak left to kill Aaricia which sends him back on a horse to find them.
Jolan, on his way to the village is thrown off his horse and found by Wor’s party. Thorgal kills many of them but Wor threatens Jolan’s life which makes the Vikings reject his rule and abandon him. During the final confrontation with Thorgal, the hunchback comes out of hiding and drags Wor to his death at the bottom of a cliff.
Thorgal is reunited with Aaricia who had hidden in a wolf’s lair by mistake and given birth to a daughter at the same time as a female wolf. She names her Louve (she-wolf).
